28thAnnual General Meeting
Annual General Meeting is the pinnacle among the key events of the GSSL and the next AGM of the Society is planned to hold on 25th February 2011 at Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, Colombo, Sri Lanka. Parallel to the AGM, the Society decided to organize a Two-Day National Symposium on “Building on Safe Lands” in which members and other interested participants could take part in the event to discuss their findings, and ways and means of application of those findings in the process of improving the standards of the general public.Please submit your ABSTRACTS to the Editors on or before 15th January 2012.
28th Annual Sessions – 2012 -Submission of Abstracts
Now you can submit your abstract to the 28th Annual Sessions of the GSSL 2012. The main theme of this years Annual Sessions is "Building on Safe Ground" Although EC would like to concentrate on the above theme, other Geology related Abstracts are also very welcome for the 2012 sessions.Please submit your ABSTRACTS to the Editors on or before 15th January 2012.
PG Cooray Medal -2011
Applications are invited from Sri Lankan young geoscientists under the age of 35 at the time of application for the award of the PG Cooray Medal. The medal will be awarded to the most outstanding contributor to the field of Earth Sciences of Sri Lanka during the period of 2010-2011. Prospective applicants are requested to submit copies of their theses, dissertation, publications patents etc. to the secretary, GSSL on or before 15th January 2012.
Sri Lanka Won a Bronze Medal
Sri Lankan student won a bronze medal in 6th International Earth Science Olympiad Competition held in Modena, Italy in last September. Await for more details!
Annual GSSL Trip 2011
The Society is planning to organize an exciting opportunity to spend a weekend for its members and their families. Friends of Members can also participate.

GSSL was successfully conducted its 2nd field research and environmental awareness workshop for school children in Matala on 27th and 28th May 2011 at Rattota and Pitawalapatan region.
Annual General Meeting & the Symposium 2011
The Annual General Meeting and the Symposium on Disasters-Reduction, Mitigation and Management was held on on 25th and 26th February 2011 at the Institute of Fundamental Studies, Hantana Road, Kandy. During the Symposium 31 research papers were presented.
The Society Annual Dinner and Get-together was held at the Hotel Tree of Life, Kandy on 25th, evening in grand scale.
Earth and the Environment- Sinhala Book
A Sinhala book published by the GSSL, titled Earth and the Environment- a geological Introduction, authored by Profs. Rohana Chandrajith and C.B. Dissanayake were launched officially in a grand ceremony held on 23rd January 2011 at Institute of Fundamental Studies, Kandy. Minister of Higher Education, Hon. Mr. S.B. Dissanayake grace the occasion as the Chief Guest. The book is now available for sell at the cost of Rs 350/-.
