GEOLOGICAL SOCIETY OF SRI LANKA

History of  GSSL

The Geological Society of Sri Lanka (GSSL) was established in September 1983 during the first International Symposium on the Geology of Sri Lanka held at the University of Peradeniya as a non-profit scientific society. It has been the only one of the pre-eminent geological organization in Sri Lanka.  The main objective of the society is to promote dissemination of all aspects of geological knowledge within Sri Lanka and to look into the interests of the individuals and organizations involved in the field of geosciences.

The GSSL is working with any interested group in planning symposia and other type of meetings related to geosciences.  It will also advocate the improvement of employment standards of professional geologists in various organizations and will also assist undergraduates to improve their geological knowledge.
